Hardworking entertainer Kanye West will be one of many famous headlining acts participating in Morocco’s global arts and music gathering “Festival Mawazine: Rhythms Of The World” which begins tomorrow (May 20) in the capital city of Rabat. The eight day festival will feature acts from around the world, keeping directly in line with the festival’s focus on the cultural diversity and also highlighting the rich musical sounds, textures and dances practiced throughout the globe.
Kanye will be featured amongst a high profile collection of international superstars in the world of music and entertainment and sultry Colombian songstress Shakira will close out the final day of performances. Joining the festivities will be Englishmen Yusuf Islam and Joe Cocker and also iconic American stars such as the Earth, Wind and Fire band, R&B legend Lionel Richie and the celebrated producer Quincy Jones.
Other global stars of note are afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti’s eldest son Femi Kuti, Senegalese superstar Youssou N’dour (who once worked with rapper Canibus) and Morrocan-born producer and songwriter Nadir “RedOne” Khayat who has worked with Lady Gaga. Lionel Richie, Quincy Jones and a host of other musicians and artists recognized for their musical and humanitarian contributions will join together for a special post-festival tribute performance on May 29 in the city of Marrakech – just one month after the city was the site of a vicious terrorist attack on April 28 thought to be enacted by local al-Qaida members which killed over a dozen people, including foreign nationals.
Admission to the tribute concert is free of charge. For more information regarding Festival Mawazine, please visit: http://www.festivalmawazine.ma/en.html
